Lucasfilm Reveals the Sith Trooper

Lucasfilm Reveals the Sith Trooper

Today we thought we’d take a little break from the latest Marvel and Stan Lee news and drop in for a visit on a galaxy far, far away…

You’ve heard of Clone Troopers, Stormtroopers, and First Order Troopers, but have you ever laid your eyes on a Sith Trooper?

Well that’s exactly what we’re going to get in the latest
and final film installment of the Star
trilogy of trilogies, otherwise known as the Skywalker Saga. Lucasfilm
revealed the surprise edition to Star
canon this week with the crimson clad Sith Troopers, set to debut in The
Rise of Skywalker
, shocking fans across the globe.

Despite being obvious targets for blaster fire, the blood red design is quite striking, with elements incorporated from previous trooper armor, the Return of the Jedi’sImperial Royal Guards and the Praetorian Guard from The Last Jedi film. Oddly enough, the suits seem to take the most inspiration from the prequel era Clone Trooper armor, with similarly shaped helmets and visors.

All shapes aside, the biggest question coming out of this
announcement is who are the Sith Troopers loyal to? The obvious answer is the
Sith, but the Sith haven’t been around since Darth Sidious took a nose dive
down a reactor shaft in Return of the Jedi. It was even said in The
Force Awakens
that although Kylo Ren is a dark side user, he is a member of
the Knights of Ren, and not a Sith.

There wasn’t any mention of Supreme Leader Snoke’s allegiance to the dark Sith lords in the previous two movies. So, it is possible that these new troopers won’t be following the First Order into battle at all. But then, who commands them?

With the tease of Emperor Darth Sidious’ return in the first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, there is speculation that they could be the Emperor’s own personal troops. We don’t yet know what form Sidious’ return will take, whether as a hologram recording, a droid, some kind of dark side force entity, or the dark lord himself in the flesh. If it is in fact Sidious, whose side is he on? Will he side with Kylo Ren and the First Order? Or will Rey and the Resistance have to team up with their enemies to battle this old foe?

We’ll all just have to wait and guess until December 20th
reveals all the Star Wars secrets to us. Isn’t speculation fun?

Excel… I mean, may the force be with you!

Exclusive Marvel Toys at San Diego Comic Con 2019

Exclusive Marvel Toys at San Diego Comic Con 2019

Besides panels, one of the biggest draws to SDCC is the
exclusive toys and other merch that debuts at the convention every year. This
year is no different, especially for Marvel. While Marvel has several ongoing
toy collaborations, the big news will be the exclusives slated for release during
the Con. This realm of news is constantly updated, with more reveals from
various toy companies coming.

Mattel always has an exciting booth, thanks to its collaborations with brands like DC, Star Wars, and of course, Marvel. So far, they’ve got a long list of exclusives, but only one of those is a Marvel toy. Created in partnership with Hot Wheels, the “Spider Machine GP-7” will be available for attendees to purchase at the convention. The car is based on the 1978 Japanese Spider-Man animated series that had motocross racer Takuya Yamashiro take on the mantle of Spidey. You can read the full lowdown on the Mattel release HERE.

One of the biggest toy companies attending the convention, Funko, has released a handful of Marvel-themed Pop! toys to debut at SDCC. So far, the company has released new figures that encompass both the MCU and Marvel Comics including Gamora, Wong, and more. The announcement can be seen HERE.

Hasbro is keeping anticipation high right up to the Con by only releasing tiny trickles of new information about their Marvel collection. Among the first sets of news drops is a vintage Hulk action figure that celebrates 80 years of Marvel. Although there have been many iterations of the Big Green Guy over the years, the Hasbro SDCC exclusive goes all the way back to the beginning, with the iconic purple shorts and even a broken lead pipe in his hand. Beyond this, as part of the Marvel Legends series, intergalactic characters the Collector and the Grandmaster will be coming to SDCC in toy form. Although the two are never seen together onscreen, these figurines will be debuting as a two-pack available exclusively at the Con and come complete with props from their films. For more Hasbro news, check out their Instagram feed as it updates new releases HERE.

It looks like the most extensive selection of Marvel-themed SDCC exclusives will be at Sideshow Collectibles. Although the figurines are on the pricier side, Sideshow guarantees unmatched detail and an interesting variety of both well-known and lesser-known characters. Since Avengers: Endgame’s release, everyone has been paying tribute to Iron Man, so naturally some of the exclusive attendee-only releases have been dedicated to him. First, there’s the “Neon Tech Iron Man 2.0” that shows off the future of the Iron Man suit in a whole new light – it literally lights up! Then there’s the suit that started it all, the Mark 1. This hand-painted figurine depicts the original Iron Man suit built by Tony Stark as a means to escape his terrorist captors and includes a replica of the man himself, as well. There will also be a golden figure of Thanos called “The Mad Titan Designer Toy,” based on an animated likeness of the character. Even if you can’t attend SDCC there will still be Marvel toys available to purchase online that weekend, including Ghost Rider. You can see the full lineup HERE.

This toy
list will surely grow longer by the time SDCC rolls around, so be sure to keep
an eye out for other exclusive releases centered around the convention. See you
in San Diego!

Obscure Stan Lee Characters from A-Z: The Electric E’s!

Obscure Stan Lee Characters from A-Z: The Electric E’s!

It’s Trivia Tuesday! Which of the below characters did Stan have a hand in creating?

A. Echo

B. Eon

C. Eternity

D. Eel

And the answers are…

C. Eternity and D. Eel!

Eternity isn’t a person but rather an abstract cosmic being, dreamt up by the famous team of Stan Lee and Steve Dikto. Though Eternity was first referred to in the pages of Strange Tales #134 in July 1965, the character didn’t make an appearance until four issues later. Despite—or perhaps because—Eternity is intangible and the quintessence of the multiverse, the entity possesses immense power. One of the upsides to that ability? If Eternity wants a situation to have a certain outcome, it can basically influence the multiverse in order to make it so. (How cool would that be?!)

The Eel fluttered into Marvel Comics way back in September 1963 in the pages of Strange Tales #112. Another brainchild of Stan and Steve Ditko, this villain, aka Leopold Stryke, donned an ensemble that produced an electrical sensation just like its namesake. Not to mention, a slick coat of, well, something covered his suit, assumingly in another attempt to align with his amphibian equivalent. At various times, the Eel joined evil forces with other criminals including Porcupine, Unicorn, and Plantman to battle the likes of the X-Men and other heroes.

As for the other two, do you know their origins? If not, it’s always good to learn something new, right?

Echo was introduced 20 years ago in the pages of Daredevil Vol. 2. #9 in December 1999 by Joe Quesada and David Mack.

Eon was the brainchild of writer/artist Jim Starlin, debuting in Captain Marvel #28 in September 1973.

Every couple of weeks, we’ll spotlight some of Stan’s
most obscure co-creations through trivia, starting with A and ending with Z!
Stay tuned for ‘F,’ coming soon!

First Disney+ Series ‘Loki’ Set Photo Surfaces, Tom Hiddleston Speaks

First Disney+ Series ‘Loki’ Set Photo Surfaces, Tom Hiddleston Speaks

Avengers: Endgame
may be
over, but Loki always finds a way to persevere. Thanks to the positive audience
reaction to the character ever since his first appearance in 2011 and thanks to
the great filmmakers who gave him such a dynamic story arc, Loki is getting his
own spin-off series on Disney+. As is typical for a Marvel Studios production,
everything is still under a nearly impenetrable layer of mystery.

During Endgame
we got an idea of how Loki might have avoided his death in Infinity War, but besides having seen
him take the Tesseract (the Infinity Space Stone) and slip away from the
Avengers, we know nothing about his upcoming adventures.

Tom Hiddleston is used to keeping quiet about what Loki is up to but that’s not to say that he isn’t excited about donning the wig and green and black ensemble once again. When the announcement of the show hit the internet last year, Tom was quick to confirm his part in the series with one simple tweet, and Tom doesn’t tweet often, so this was momentous!

— Tom Hiddleston (@twhiddleston) November 9, 2018

That was
many months ago and although we are still mostly in the dark regarding show
details, some bits and pieces have emerged, including a few words from the man
playing the God of Mischief himself.

Two weeks ago at the Shanghai International Film Festival, Tom spoke about his past career, his future, and of course the future of his longest running character portrayal, Loki.  He reminisced about his time as Loki after being cast in Thor back in 2011.

“It is a constant source of surprise and delight that these films have connected with people. I knew he was a complex figure. Intelligent yet vulnerable. Angry and lost and broken and witty. I thought it was an amazing opportunity and it’s grown into this network of movies. I could never have expected it. I feel very fortunate that this character has connected with people.”

Of course, the question was raised about the upcoming series and, as expected, Tom couldn’t say much:

“All I can tell you is that it is called Loki. It is a new departure … but I can’t explain why.”

This news comes a few weeks after a Disney investor’s conference in which Kevin Feige did in fact speak about the upcoming Loki series. Of course, there was no recording in this meeting, but one well-placed camera did get a photo of Feige on stage and a semi-clear shot of Loki in the setting of the show.

The title Loki shows across the screen, confirming what Tom said. The image also seems to confirm the rumored plot detail that the series would revolve around Loki’s new ability to time travel, thanks to his trusty Tesseract. Jaws first came to theaters in 1975, so the bustling city (rumored to be Manhattan) may be that of the past. You can check out the image of Loki below:

the case, at least we know that production on Loki is going full speed

will be available to subscribers in November 2019. The tentative release date for
Loki is 2020, with
several other MCU-based series to follow revolving around Scarlet Witch,
Vision, Falcon and Winter Soldier.
