The Third Phase of the MCU Will Not Actually End with
Following this week, the world will witness the massive
changes in the MCU that are inevitably happening with the release of Avengers:
Endgame. But even so, the show will still go on somehow.
As the press tour for the film has unfolded, the general chatter is about all of the “endings” to come with Endgame, but technically it isn’t quite the end yet. While all anyone can think about right now is exactly how the remaining Avengers will defeat Thanos, we can’t forget that there’s actually another film being released this summer. This July, less than three months after Endgame, the sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters, Spider-Man: Far from Home.
There’s no denying that many things will be different after
the fourth Avengers film, but it turns out that the finale of Phase 3 of the
MCU isn’t actually Endgame, but Far from Home. The confirmation
comes from the man with the plan among all these intertwined storylines, Kevin
Feige, Marvel Studios’ President.
At a fan event in Shanghai during the Endgame press tour, Feige got straight to the point when asked about Far from Home, saying, “It’s the end of the third phase. You’re the first person I told that to.”
The full video of the exchange can be seen below.
been plenty of speculation about how Marvel Studios plans to acknowledge the
fact that Peter Parker turned into dust at the end of Infinity War. Does
Far from Home take place immediately after Endgame like many have
guessed? Before? How does Nick Fury play into all of this if he is dust too?
of these questions are anywhere close to being answered yet, and in fact, the
idea that Far From Home marks the real turning point into Phase 4 poses
even more questions.
Since Spider-Man entered the MCU at a much later date than the original Avengers, there is no reason to believe that the character will not be moving forward into Phase 4; however, we don’t know which other characters will also continue on. There have been vague announcements of Guardians Vol. 3, Black Panther 2, as well as the Black Widow solo film, but all the films moving forward will have to be distinctly different from their preceding installments. It may be strange to think that Far from Home will be the catalyst to a new era of the MCU rather than Endgame, which boasts a game-changer, but who are we to question the mind of Kevin Feige.
been no formal release date announcements about specific films to come after
July, but perhaps once the secrets held within Endgame are finally
revealed, the future will become clearer and the reasoning for Far from Home
serving as the ending of Phase 3 will make more sense.
catalyzing features of Far from Home
can be discussed in regard to the fourth phase of the MCU, Peter Parker must
first come back from his dusty grave, so to speak. Phase 3 may not be coming to
an end this week with Endgame, but something sure is.
Endgame is in
theaters now! And after that, Spider-Man: Far from Home comes to
theaters on July 2, 2019.
