The Final ‘Dark Phoenix’ Trailer Provides a Glimpse into the Extent of Jean Grey’s Powers

The road to the Dark Phoenix film hasn’t been a smooth
one, but it seems that the puzzle pieces are finally coming together as we
approach its June release. The latest piece of the puzzle is a new trailer.

The studio is calling this the “final trailer,” so
naturally, it had to reach a new level of intensity. Long-time X-Men fans
already know that the story of Dark Phoenix is incredibly high stakes given the
sheer magnitude of her power. Judging from the trailers we’ve seen so far, it
looks like director Simon Kinberg will bring those high stakes to the big
screen this summer.

Between a harrowing scene with Magneto and the sinister
advice that Jean Grey is given by Jessica Chastain’s enigmatic character known
only as “Smith,” it’s clear that all the characters are endangered by the
Phoenix Force, even those we thought would be powerful enough to fight it.

Before all the explosions and telekinetic destruction kicks in, Jean Grey seeks to control her powers with the help of resident misunderstood-villain Erik Lehnsherr, a.k.a. Magneto. Comicbook fans may be familiar with the island nation of Genosha, which is officially confirmed as being in the film. This island, where Grey meets Lehnsherr, is a nation of Magneto’s creation which he offers as a sanctuary for all mutants. Whether or not their meeting goes well remains to be seen, but in this image, it looks like Jean is earnestly trying to listen to Magneto’s advice.

In the new issue of Empire magazine, Kinberg explained his long-time plans to feature this location on the big screen, since it has appeared in X-Men lore for many years:

“Genosha is something that I’ve always been fascinated by. It’s sort of Oz for mutants. As a Jew, its parallels to Israel and the notion of the promised land intrigued me even as a kid. I was looking in previous X-Men movies for a way to incorporate it. It was something I thought about for Apocalypse, but then went in a very different direction.”

Now, without giving away any further spoilers, here’s the final trailer for Dark Phoenix:

comes to
theaters on June 5, 2019.

The ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Press Tour Kicks Off in Hollywood

The Avengers have assembled (off-screen) once again! The
press tour officially began last week for Avengers: Endgame, this time
with a few different faces, plus some very notable but unsurprising absences. For
instance, Brie Larson has joined the remaining Avengers in the press room for
the first time, and Jeremy Renner has also returned to join the Original Six
after being absent from the Infinity War festivities last year.

One cast member noticeably absent is Chadwick Boseman, whose death as Black Panther in Infinity War shook fans to the core. While the actor is very grateful that fans have so deeply connected to his character, he adamantly continues the on-screen narrative of his character’s death.  At an appearance at CinemaCon last week, Boseman was asked about Endgame, and he was very quick to say that he knows nothing because his character is dead. That was the story he stuck to despite many rumors of his return, and that’s the only story we are going to get until opening night—if he is proved wrong.

When Chadwick Boseman said, “I’m dead.” I felt that.

— Kevin T. (@cinematicmemes) April 5, 2019

This press tour is exceptionally special because it may be
the last go around for some of the original cast members we’ve come to know and
love over the last 11 years. As speculation about character deaths and expiring
actor contracts looms over the future of the MCU, the press rounds are already
starting to look like a big party for all the graduating seniors!

As for the remaining living Avengers, it’s certainly a different environment this time around. The gang is enjoying each other’s company, but Marvel Studios is making sure no one forgets, not even the cast members, that half of their friends are gone. At the press junket last week, the stage was set for all the current cast members and directors to answer questions, but there were also empty chairs set up to remind everyone of all of the heroes that perished in Infinity War.

Additionally, as most of the cast members know, it’s a minefield at these press junkets when it comes to avoiding spoilers. When asked questions, many of the cast members have to obviously sidestep any kind of real answer. Thanks to the shared terror of all the actors not wanting to let anything slip, they often come to each other’s rescue when asked too-specific questions and quickly change the subject. This isn’t exactly the type of information the public hopes to learn from a publicity event like this, but with the MCU films, we should all know the protocol by now.

Press day, and bumped into these fine gents #presstourcontinues #avengersendgame

Perhaps a better use of the remaining Avengers assembled is to feature them in funny skits that really give away nothing about Endgame. At least, this is what the team at Jimmy Kimmel Live! figured. Instead of answering probing questions about the finale to come, the Avengers cast read from the children’s book version of Infinity War called The Mad Titan Thanos. Though this reading gave us no new information, it sure was funny.

The press
tour is in full swing now! There are surely more dodged questions and funny
behind-the-scenes stories to come as the cast makes their way overseas and
continues to assemble (for the last time?) before Avengers: Endgame comes
to theaters on April 26, 2019.

Ever Wonder Who Played That Big Superhero Cameo In Shazam?

We’re as surprised as you are.

At the end of Shazam!, just when the audience thinks the film has played its last punchline with Billy Batson’s heroic alter ego having lunch with his foster family at school, there’s one last turn that drove audiences wild. In that moment, we see the last son of Krypton, Superman himself, standing with a lunch tray in hand. However, his head missing is from the frame, which lead the public to wonder who was really standing in that role. Well, we finally know who physically played that role, and it’s one of the film’s stunt men, Ryan Handley.

Hawkeye Spin-Off Series to Debut on Disney+

With all the talk of storylines and characters coming to an
end in Avengers: Endgame, it looks like Marvel Studios intends to keep some
characters alive and continue their stories elsewhere. Disney plans to have its
streaming platform up and running by the end of this year, featuring material
from Disney, Marvel, ABC, and now FOX and all its subsidiaries. Disney+ will
stream several shows and movies that have appeared elsewhere, but the biggest
draw for fans will be the new series created exclusively for the platform.

It was recently announced that Clint Barton will get a
spin-off limited series to premiere on Disney+, with Jeremy Renner reprising
his role. According to the initial
from Variety,
the show will be “an
adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to
Kate Bishop.”

There is no
word yet about when this series will take place within the MCU timeline, nor have
there been any direct comments from Marvel or Renner. Obviously, it’s still
uncertain what the fate of Hawkeye will be after Endgame, but it is
quite possible that the series could take place before Infinity War, or after
Infinity War but before Endgame, or even after the as-yet-unknown
events of Endgame.

It has been
confirmed that 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford will have an
unknown role in Endgame, so perhaps she will portray Kate Bishop. The
character of Kate Bishop in the comicbooks is a young woman who took on the
mantle of Hawkeye after being trained by Barton and is a member of the Young

Naturally, news of Renner’s Hawkeye series was received very well by fans, especially because he is one of the few Original Six Avengers not to have a solo film. This spin-off series for Disney+ is the latest to be added to the growing roster of shows which feature Marvel characters, including Loki, Scarlet Witch, and Falcon and Winter Soldier. No release dates have been announced yet for any of these Marvel series.

In the
meantime, to see the next chapter in Hawkeye’s story, check out a little film
called Avengers: Endgame, which comes out on April 26, 2019.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ International Posters and New Videos Highlight Remaining Fighters

The world is gearing up for the massive release of the grand finale of the Infinity Saga at the end of this month, and we do mean “the world.” We’ve seen some spectacular material from Marvel Studios for the American release of Avengers: Endgame, but the international markets are also preparing for an unprecedented cinematic event. With pre-sale ticket records being swiftly broken in several countries, the anticipation is certainly something shared by fans overseas.

Last week, Marvel Thailand released exclusive character posters
to show a closer look at 12 of the remaining fighters that will (presumably)
band together in a rematch against Thanos. Leading the pack is, of course, the Original Six: Cap, Iron Man,
Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, and Hulk (although he’s still Dr. Banner in this

The other six characters highlighted are mostly
new to the pack, but still serve as formidable in their own films. Hopefully
this will continue to translate in Endgame!
Following the Original Six are Rhodey, Ant-Man, Okoye, Captain Marvel, Nebula,
and Rocket.

The posters don’t show much new information, but
the cosmic-looking background does cause speculation about which of these
characters will actually travel into space in Endgame. Foreshadowing, perhaps? Give it a few more weeks, and
we’ll know for sure.

With less than a month until the film hits theaters, it’s finally time for the world to get a small glimpse of what’s next for the Avengers in the form of clips and featurettes. The first full-length clip shows a handful of the
Avengers back at HQ. Cap and Black Widow discuss their (as yet unknown) plan to
possibly avenge the fallen. The most notable part of this scene however is the
presence of Captain Marvel among the other Avengers. This is the first time
we’ve seen Carol Danvers interacting with the rest of the team. The question on
all of our minds is again posed: “How will Captain Marvel figure in helping the

While the video doesn’t exactly answer that question, it does give us a hint that Danvers has some tricks up her sleeve that she’ll likely unleash on Thanos. You can see the full clip from Avengers: Endgame below:

In a new featurette that also just dropped, the
cast is far more optimistic off screen than their characters are post-snap. Veterans
of the MCU call Endgame their “finest hour” and “the best stuff,” among
other things in this short behind-the-scenes video. We have no reason to doubt
them at this point! The full featurette can be seen below:

“These are the highest stakes that the Avengers have ever faced.”

With the press tour in full swing, we can expect a
lot more clues, but hopefully no spoilers! It’s almost time for our heroes to
once again face off against their greatest opponent yet.

Avengers: Endgame comes to theaters on April 26, 2019.
